Search Engine Reports
July, 2006 If your business is the #1 result in a Google Local search, and Google Local has your address, the search results will now include a map alongside your listing. (If Google Local doesn't have your address, you can give it to them by adding your business to InfoUSA or submitting your site to Google Local.) The cost of minimum bids for some Adwords advertisers has gone up, thanks to Google's landing page assessment spider. If your landing page does not provide valuable, unique, and relevant content, as well as a privacy policy and your contact information, you may end up paying more. Independent study reveals that Google's attempts to prevent click fraud are adequate, if not perfect, and confirms that the content network is the most prone to fraudulent clicks. Yahoo releases a new home page, including quick access to new e-mail, IM, local weather and traffic through a "personal assistant." Also, easy access to current trends, news, etc. With the help of Zillow, a Yahoo Search on "home values" now brings up two input fields. Entering an address brings back the value of that house. Yahoo joins forces with Ebay and PayPal to compete with Google Base and Microsoft's Live Windows Shopping. Yahoo agrees to provide graphic ads and some search results to Ebay; Ebay agrees to provide current listings to Yahoo; and PayPal will administer Yahoo's online wallet. AOL unrolls beta edition of AOLVideo.com, a competitor of YouTube, Google Video, and Yahoo Video.
