Search Engine Reports
February, 2007 AdWords advertisers now have more power over where their ads appear, with a site exclusion tool that allows them to block sites or even parts of sites from displaying their ads; AdSense publishers now have the option to better describe their site, and sections of their site, to advertisers, to persuade them to advertise with them. AdSense publishers may no longer publish Google ads alongside any other ads that resemble AdWords ads, in layout and color; furthermore, images are banned from appearing alongside Google ads. Below your search results at Google, you may be seeing more "Related Searches" - alternate key phrases that may be a more precise version of your query (or not). We expect that Google will "learn" from this how best to answer the original query. Google tweaks algorithm to address manipulation of inbound text links known as Google Bombs used most recently (and notoriously) to direct anyone searching on "miserable failure" to George W. Bush's bio page at Whitehouse.gov. Experts believe that the algorithm now assesses the rate at which links containing identical anchor text pop up on the Web. If too many links containing the same text appear too quickly, and the web page they point at does not contain the phrase in question, the page's ranking in Google for that phrase will now be demoted. If the algorithm works as expected, it could be possible for a smart competitor to demote a page for which you rank well by creating numerous inbound links containing the phrase - unless Google has anticipated this by considering your inclusion of the phrase in your web page a signal that your ranking for that term is deserved.
Now, Google's site search includes results from subdomains - such as
http://products.yourdomain.com - not just http://www.yourdomain.com |
