Search Engine Reports June 2009 Google introduces Search Options, which allows the user to filter results by date or by type (forum, video, review, or image), and allow longer descriptions, up to 400-500 characters. Another feature called "Wonder Wheel" displays alternate search terms. "Timeline" shows historical results. Google account members will now see personalized suggestions, based on past searching history, within the drop-down box that appears when they conduct a search. This includes key phrases, URLs (if it seems you're searching for a particular site) and even Adwords ads (so far only for Google If your site includes user reviews, data from the reviews - such as number of stars, number of reviews, and price - can now appear in Google search results. Google Adwords loosens restrictions on advertisers' use of competitor trademarks. Now, U.S. advertisers can use other companies' trademarks "in a descriptive or generic way"; to re-sell the trademarked goods or services; to sell "components, replacement parts, or compatible products"; or "provide non-competitive and informative details" about the trademarked goods or services. The vagueness of the first provision, especially, will put the burden on the trademark holder to combat abuse, probably by increasing bids on trademarked terms. Yahoo Web Analytics is now available not only to consumers of Yahoo's ecommerce web hosting solutions, but also to Yahoo advertisers. One report suggests it is an improvement on Google Analytics, at least in some areas. Microsoft adCenter has made it possible to manage customer targeting and incremental bidding at the campaign and ad group level. Advertisers can view performance and demographic data by keyword. The desktop app runs faster, manages up to 100,000 key phrases, and makes it easier to update ads and bids. Microsoft announces the new name of their updated search engine. It is not Kumo, as originally rumored, but Bing.
